ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Taking care of the environment in which we live is an increasing concern for many people and since April 2005 the Dominion Theatre has recognised this concern by adopting an environmental policy to improve the quality of the environment in which we all share and have a responsibility for. We have introduced a waste minimisation programme to reduce the volume of waste sent to landfill. Every month on average 75% of all our waste is being diverted from landfill to be recycled. In the first 6 months of 2009 over 40 tonnes of waste was recycled!

Wherever possible we buy products in bulk, reuse materials and recycle unwanted waste. We currently recycle glass, paper, cardboard, plastic, aluminium cans, batteries, mobile phones, clothes and ink jet cartridges and encourage all employees and visitors to be involved. Approximately 90% of all the packaging of our saleable goods is now recyclable.

All fluorescent and sodium lamps, once unusable are taken away by a specialist company that ensure they are disposed of safely with no harm caused to the environment.

Green procurement – the Dominion Theatre is currently signed up to the highest level of the Mayor of London’s Green Procurement Code and wherever possible, through our suppliers we endeavour to purchase environmentally friendly products.

We hold one off collections for employees to bring in unwanted clothes/textiles. All material goes to TRAID, one of the leading fashion recycling charities, which raises money to fund international aid projects whilst helping to promote recycling and waste reduction in the UK. In early 2009 we also held a clothes amnesty for Cancer Research for all employees, cast and crew.

As a signatory of the Mayor of London’s Green Procurement code we are in regular contact with London Remade who provides us with support in recycling, green procurement and maintaining our environmental policy.

We endeavour to minimise our impact on the environment wherever this is practical and follow the simple principles to:

ACCESS POLICY

The Dominion Theatre aims to recognise and acknowledge peoples’ differences and support them with their individual needs within business parameters. We support equal access and oppose all forms of unlawful and unfair discrimination.

Principles:

  • Valuing and respecting diversity and the differences brought to the business.

  • Promoting equal opportunities in all aspects of employment and in our service to customers.

  • Creating a healthy working environment in which discrimination and harassment have no part.

Facilities:

Wheelchairs:
We have a wheelchair lifting platform providing ease of access to the stalls. In addition, we have a unisex disabled toilet, adjacent to the lower stalls bar. Our Nederlander Box is available for patrons in electric wheelchairs and also has a unisex disabled toilet. For events in the Studio access is available via the lifting platform in the stalls for 1 wheelchair. The Studio also has a unisex disabled toilet. If you are visiting the theatre and are concerned about access please call 0207 927 0900 for further information or to inform us of your visit. For details on booking tickets with Access Requirements please see the ‘Bookings’ section below.

Infra-red Hearing System:
We have an infra-red hearing system installed in the auditorium allowing for the show to be accessible for the hearing impaired. The system operates on infra-red beams transmitted to a receiver which is on either a headset or a neck loop which the patron wears. We have both the headsets and neck loops available. The headsets are worn like a stethoscope, with ear pieces that sit comfortable inside the ear. The neck loop goes over the head like a necklace and creates a loop with the patrons hearing aid, which must be set to the "T" or "loop" setting. Patrons who would like to make use of this facility should contact the Duty Manager upon arrival at the theatre.

We also host occasional signed performances of We Will Rock You in association with Theatresign. Visit www.theatresign.com for details on the next signed performance date.
