We Will Rock You wins BBC Radio 2 Audience Award at the 2011 Mastercard Olivier Awards

After 9 years of rocking at the Dominion Theatre We Will Rock You has been awarded the BBC Radio 2 Audience Award at the Olivier Awards in London. Millions around the world have been voting with their feet for the past nine years coming to see the rock spectacular that is We Will Rock You and sending it hurtling towards its 10th anniversary in 2012. This year they have been voting online to help We Will Rock You to see off strong competition from other hopefuls in the category such as Jersey Boys, Les Misérables and Billy Elliot. Brian May accepted the award at the star studded ceremony with members of the cast leaving theatre critics who panned the show back at its premiere in 2002 squirming uncomfortably in their seats. The BBC Radio 2 Audience Award is the only Olivier Award for which the outcome is entirely voted for by the theatre-going public. Want to know what all the hype is about? The Dominion Theatre, London, is home to the smash hit rock theatrical We Will Rock You, which plays Monday – Saturday evenings at 7.30pm with matinees at 2.30pm on Saturdays, the last Wednesday of each month, and Wednesdays in School Holidays.
